How to Show Your Google Plus Profile and Other Links on Your YouTube Channel (video)

The Google Plus and YouTube integration has taken a giant step. You’ll no longer have to upload videos from your YouTube channel to Google Plus. If you show your Google Plus profile on your YouTube channel, your channel will appear on Google Plus. Yes!

Here’s a quick video I recorded to demo how to do it (on a non-partner channel).

If search engine optimization is part of your business marketing strategy, Google Plus and YouTube are definitely the place to be.

If you see the benefit of more in-depth training on building a YouTube channel or SEO, check out my ebooks on my Website. I walk you through everything step by step and in plain English.

How to Add a YouTube Video to a LinkedIn Update and Have It Play Inside (video demo)

I found a lot of help explaining how to insert a video into my LinkedIn profile via a Google Docs or Slideshare.net presentation. But I couldn’t find anything on how to insert a YouTube video inside a LinkedIn Update (not just a link). Via AutoShare on YouTube, my new uploads get tweeted, and my tweets feed into LinkedIn (via Settings), but I also wanted the option of republishing a video update later.

WAY ONE: When you’re on the video watch page on YouTube, you can click Share, More to expand the options, and choose LinkedIn.

WAY TWO. I recorded a quick video below (after the graphic). The issue was finding the right URL to the video that worked (there are several instances of a video URL on YouTube, but the one in the instruction below is the only one I tried that worked). UPDATE: I’ve gone back and tried the other instances of the URL (browser bar, etc.) and everything worked.

  1. Find the video you want on YouTube, right-click on it, and click Copy video URL.
  2. Go to LinkedIn, create a new update, and click Attach a Link.
  3. Paste the YouTube URL in the Add URL box.
  4. Click Attach, Share

That’s it! See the video demo below if you need more help.

Here’s a video to step you through it. Let me know if you know of a better way or have a question…leave a comment here or on YouTube. Thanks!

How to Embed a Video into Slideshare Presentations

Slideshare.net is an integral part of my SEO (search engine optimization) arsenal. My PowerPoint slides that I upload to this site are indexed extremely well by the major search engines. I’ve known for awhile that I could insert videos into my Slideshare presentations, but I hadn’t tried it. I’ve recorded this video that shows you how.

And, by the way, an account at Slideshare.net is free.

Video: Click Play on the Slideshow Player

You’ll see where I had a time trying to figure out the URL I’d need from YouTube for the video I wanted to embed. The Share link didn’t work. To get the correct URL, right-click anywhere on the video in YouTube.com, and click Copy video URL. It’ll look like this when you paste it:

http://Youtube.com/watch?v=yourvideoIDhere

Let me know what you think by leaving a comment.

Update: Lavada Thompson of Gems-Shine Consulting suggested I add a border around this video. Not only did she make the suggestion, she sent me the corrected code. Thanks, Lavada!

Shameless Self-Promotion Defined

When it comes to training, I like to stay in my lane and stick to teaching what I know and love. For me, that’s personal productivity and teaching people how to work smarter: get organized, streamline processes, and use technology the right way.

But then something kept happening.

People started to ask me how I was getting so much national, major publicity. They wanted to know who my publicist was. I’d say “Google.” Huh? Yep, Google. I don’t have to pitch stories because journalists find me on the first page of organic searches when they’re looking for someone with my expertise. Prospective clients do too. Lucky for me, although I didn’t know what search engine optimization (SEO) was back then, everything I was doing was it.

I started sharing the tactics I’d used, then I gave a few seminars about it, then I wrote an ebook.

My Shameless Self-Promotion: Do-It-Yourself SEO (link is to my ebook) seminar is becoming the most popular speaking request I receive, particularly when the audience is business owners.

At a recent American Express event, getting found online was the number one thing business owners wanted to talk about. So I’m going with the flow, veering a little out of my lane, and giving people what they want.

So what do I mean by shameless self-promotion? It’s not going around patting yourself on the back telling everyone who will listen how wonderful you are. My definition is that you use every opportunity you have and every marketing tool you have access to to promote what you know. Help people. Deliver value. As you promote what you know online (blog posts, how-to videos, press releases, social media, etc), the search engines will eat it up.

So how are you promoting what you know?

Small Business Owners Want to Know How to Get Found Online on a Budget

I presented my shameless self-promotion seminar for SCORE Chicago recently. The standing-room-only crowd of small business owners was totally into it. Lots of great questions and comments. Jo Anne Cano, Vice President of A.J. Smith Federal Savings Bank, said: “Thank you so much. Your presentation on Tuesday at SCORE was awesome. It gave me lots of great tips and I hope to put them to good use.”

My secrets to getting boatloads of publicity are detailed in my booklet, Shameless Self-Promotion: DIY SEO. And I’d love to travel to your next event to speak live, or we can meet on the Web. If you’re interested, contact me directly.

This seminar and ebook outline is as follows:

  • Get Your Website Ready.
  • Promote What You Know.
  • Find Out What the Media Wants.
  • Find Time to Do All This.

I put all this together because people kept asking me how I get so much major publicity without a public relations agency. This is beginning to be one of my favorite things to teach.

Here are a few of my tips in this
FREE slideshow titled Blogging Your Way Up the Google Ladder.

When You Send Press Releases Does Google or Yahoo Know?

In my seminar and ebook on shameless self-promotion, I share how I’ve received international media coverage by doing my own public relations. One of my suggestions is to send weekly online press releases because they will boost your search engine rankings and attract reporters and clients. (I am on the first page of Google for my expertise and this is just one of the things I’ve done to make this happen…without using Pay-Per-Click.)

Several fee-based services are available for distribution of your media releases, including: BusinessWire.com, PRWeb.com, PRNewswire.com, BlackPR.com, USAsianWire.com, and HispanicPRWire.com.

In addition to improving your search engine rankings, online press releases could get picked up by Google News and Yahoo News. This is important because 64% of journalists use these two sources for story ideas, 79 percent of journalists find story ideas from newswires in general, and 74 percent from Websites [Arketi 2008]. I started digging more into Google News and Yahoo News and what effect sending an online press release has on it, and which services produced the best results (showing up on the news sites).

In checking the Google News and Yahoo News archives, I discovered that some free press release technologies such as PRLog.com don’t even show up. I also found that although the fee-based service, PRWeb.com, costs less to use than PRNewswire.com per release, it shows up WAY more: 45,200 compared to 14,400. And BusinessWire.com leaves them all in the dust with 161,000 results.

I’m going to have to dig a little deeper to find out what makes one service get so many more results over another. I’m sure it has something to do with the popularity of the sites and how many links there are to the site, but I want to discover other related factors. I’ll update this post when I do.

The service that I use, FastPitchNetworking.com, doesn’t show up either, but it’s terrific for keeping me high in the regular Google search. And I can send as many releases as I want to for one very low monthly fee. I used PRLog.com for the first time last week and am waiting to see how my press release (Email Etiquette in the Workplace Can Reduce the Stress of Email Overload) will place in a standard Google search (that is, not in Google News). This is important because journalists also do regular searches, not just on the news sites.

The bottom line is that before you pay for a wire service, check before you buy. Here’s how.
  1. Go to http://news.google.com/archivesearch and search for all news releases from the service you’re considering.
  2. Type the following and replace prweb.com with whatever service you’re considering (see site:prweb.com in the search box. Google will return the press releases on this site only.)
  3. Then check the total of results.
