I’ve finally carved out some time to spend with Google+, and I’m digging it. I’m using it for business only. I’m very meticulous about creating my Circles and putting people in the right place based on my relationship with them and the types of posts they’re adding. I’m determined not to fall into the Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn trap of managing too much noise!
(I don’t Circle everyone who Circles me. I look at their posts, and if they’re not business-related and add value, I’m not really interested. I don’t want my Google+ stream to end up looking like Facebook.)
Here are some things I did right away to beef up my profile (in addition to adding photos and videos).
Improved the byline (mini bio). When a viewer hovers their mouse over your name in an update or anywhere else on Google+, what do they see? I added some juice here and included a call to action.
Added hyperlinks on the About page. There is a Link button right there, and I’m surprised that most of the About pages I visit don’t include hyperlinks.
Added the Option to Receive Email. I want people to have an easy way to connect with me when they visit my page. I added the email option.
Added Custom Profile Links. I’ve added links to my YouTube channel, Twitter account, and more. These are all live links that will draw people to where you want them to go.
